These Names Are Considered “Old People” Names Now

Sorry to break it to you, but your name may be aging you. Names that were popular back in the 90s and early 2000s are no longer cool, but even worse? They’re considered “old people names.”

Amber Cimiotti recently took to TikTok with a video explaining which names her young daughter thinks are only for old folks. The mom reveals that according to her little girl, millennial-era names like Ashley, Amber and Amanda are “old people names” now. So they’re “basically the new Margaret or Barbara.”

In the clip, which has racked up more than 3.5-million views, Amber shares the common names for kids today, including her daughter’s, Scarlett. “There’s Charlottes, there’s Olivias, there’s Penelopes, there’s Isabellas, there’s Bellas, there’s Ellas,” the mom says. But because her daughter’s teachers are “Miss Erica” and “Miss Samantha,” the little girl and her classmates think of those as old lady names.

  • In the comments section, people shared their surprise at Gen Alpha kids’ take on names, including a woman named Amanda who writes, “What a way to find out that I’m basically Gertrude to this new generation.”
  • “My daughter told me a kid in her class has a dad name,” comments another user. “Kids name is Josh”
  • And a hospital employee shares, “I work in a NICU and we just had a baby named “Jennifer”… first Jennifer I’ve seen in 20 years in the NICU!”
