TV Meteorologist Stops Broadcast To Save Woman Trapped By Hurricane

While covering the damage from the remnants of Hurricane Helene in Atlanta, a meteorologist became a hero by saving a woman’s life on camera. Bob Van Dillen was broadcasting live during the city’s first-ever flash flood emergency when a woman in the background was crying for help.

She had driven her car into deep floodwaters, it was submerged and she was trapped inside and the meteorologist could hear her cries during his live shot. Van Dillen yelled out that he had called 911 and after pausing, he looked at the camera and said, “I’m gonna go see if I can help this lady out a little bit more, you guys.”

He walked off camera, and moments later could be seen wading through the chest-deep water, carrying the woman on his back. Van Dillen even gave the woman his shirt because she was cold. When her husband arrived to pick her up, he came over to shake the meteorologist’s hand and thanked him repeatedly for saving his wife’s life. “Anytime,” he said. “I’d do it again.”
