A 'Strawberry Supermoon' Will Appear On Tuesday in Las Vegas

A 'Strawberry Supermoon' will light up the night sky on Tuesday.

The phenomena gets its name from the Algonquin tribe, who named it after strawberry harvesting season. Supermoons appear when the moon is full and at its closest orbital distance to Earth.

According to NASA, supermoon appears about 17% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, when it's farthest from Earth in its orbit. Supermoons are relatively rare, happening three to four times a year and always consecutively.

You'll get the best view during moonrise and moonset close to the time of the moon being at its "full" phase. Tuesday's sunset will be at 8:05 p.m. PT and moonrise at 8:57 p.m. PT, which will be the best time to see the Strawberry Supermoon.
