Lauren Alaina’s new album “Sitting Pretty on Top of the World” drops Friday and she says writing it helped ease the depression she felt during the pandemic.

"The title track is a song called 'On Top of the World' and the hook of the song is, 'Hitting rock bottom, sitting pretty on top of the world.’ And I wrote it about my struggles with depression," Alaina tells “Entertainment Tonight.”

The song is about a breakup, but Lauren says she wrote it that way because she thought it was “a little easier to convey what I was trying to say," but insists it’s all about depression.

"It was so overwhelming, I think for us all," she explains. "I was mad, and I was mad that I was sad and the only thing that I know to do with those emotions is write about them and get a puppy... so that's what I did. And that's a great way to handle it."

  • Lauren was supposed to be out on the road this year with Florida Georgia Line, but they recently canceled the tour. She says she found out about two hours before the news went public, and it was definitely upsetting. “It was a pretty upsetting time I’m not gonna lie,” she says, noting that she wants to get her guys back out on the road. "We’re trying to figure it out,” she says. “We’re trying to make a game plan now."
