I've been a believer all along that what happened between Will Smith and Chris Rock was 100% authentic and not set-up whatsoever. But THIS is the first crack in that belief- Jada's reaction after Will smacks Chris is bizarre. It doesn't look like she's upset whatsoever, she's actually laughing - and at what Chris's reaction was to the slap - almost like she knew it was happening and it was all a joke. If she was so incensed, would she be laughing right there? I'd almost be inclined to think she'd be in tears or yelling at Will to stop - or even walking out. At the very LEAST you would assume she's upset, right? Take a look:
I don't even know what to think any more. Chris's reaction still leads me to believe it's real...but there definitely seems to be some kind of missing puzzle piece here.
Here are the stats from a You.gov survey of 1,319 Americans about the incident:
- 61% of respondents considered Will Smith “wrong to hit Chris Rock after his joke” (only 21% said he wasn’t wrong, with 19% not sure — so, it is what it is, Tiffany Haddish).
- 72% of those 65 and older considered Smith wrong, but only 46% of 18- to 34-year-olds did so
- 59% of U.S. adults said it is “not ever OK to hit someone for something they said"
