Track No. 2 on Welcome Home opens with a simple piano line before a guitar kicks in as well; the melody becomes more lush as the track progresses. The song celebrates the beauty of finding something that’s real, true and perfect, whether it’s whiskey (the first verse), love (the second verse) or music (the third verse).
“Ain’t nothin’ like the real thing / And you can’t go back once you get a taste / Everything is second rate / I’m talkin’ genuine, made-in-the-USA / Ain’t nothin’ like the real thing …,” Zac Brown sings in the chorus of “Real Thing,” before he and his bandmates harmonize on the lines “Real thing / There ain’t nothin’ like the real thing, baby / There ain’t nothin’.”
