Minnesota Duluth Defeats North Dakota In 5th Overtime To Go To Frozen Four

Duluth News Tribune - Freshman wing Luke Mylymok sent Minnesota Duluth to the NCAA Frozen Four for a fourth consecutive season early Sunday morning, scoring unassisted 2:13 into the fifth overtime to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 victory over top overall seed and NCHC-rival North Dakota in a historic NCAA regional final that began on Saturday at Scheels Arena.

It was the longest NCAA tournament game in the history of the men’s or women’s hockey tournaments, clocking in at 142 minutes, 13 seconds. The game started at 7:30 p.m. EasternTime on Saturday and ended at 1:42 a.m. on Sunday.

Minnesota Duluth actually thought they had won the game WAY back in the 1st overtime period, but that goal was ultimately called off after video review showed that the play was offside.

Such a crazy game that was well worth staying up for if you are a hockey fan. Minnesota Duluth punched their ticket to the Frozen Four that is being hosted here in Pittsburgh this year. They will face UMass on April 8th. You can get more info on the Frozen Four HERE.
