Anonymous Social Media App YikYak Is Back In The IOS App Store

Man this is something I was NOT sure I would see again. After a 4 year hiatus Yik Yak is back online. If you had this on your phone back in like 2013, you KNOW how problematic this thing was. But of course it brought entertainment too. The basis of the app is location based conversation. Users can anonymously post on conversations that are active within 5 miles of their location. Of course this made way for TONS of shit talk, calling out people by name, and a ton of other controversial topics that people would bring up without having their name attached. Basically it's Twitter + Craigslist + Reddit but without consequence? Does that make sense?

I can recall using this app when I was living out at RMU. That school is small enough to the point where everyone is mostly familiar with everyone. Obviously this app shook up some feelings when people started posting revealing things about people they didn't like etc. The same thing happened at Pitt and IUP and Cal and Slippery Rock and all of the high schools around. Not just in PA but all over the place. This app RUINED reputations, friendships and relationships FOR SURE>

In a world where people are already posting all sorts of crazy things on social media it only makes sense that this app returns. I mean people already have fake usernames for every other social platform, so why not let them post freely and anonymously on here too? Who knows how this app will evolve or how long it will last - but man this blast from the past being back was certainly worthy of a blog. I'll keep my eye on it and report some of the bizarre things I am bound to see.
